Set up EMR masters and create e-prescriptions

NeftX EMR is built to cut typing time. You set up your masters once — procedures, investigations, medicines and prescribing defaults — and after that most of a prescription fills itself in. This guide covers both halves: getting your masters right, then using them to produce an e-prescription in seconds.

Before you start

  • Your list of procedures and prices
  • Your investigation list and prices — if you run your own lab
  • Whether GST applies — to any of your procedures
  • Your letterhead — if you want it on printed prescriptions

Steps

Seventeen steps — the first six are one-time setup.

Open Masters

In the OPD main navigation, click Masters. Everything in the first half of this guide lives here. You only do this once, and everything afterwards gets faster.

Add your procedures

On the Procedure tab, click Add for a new procedure or Edit to change an existing one. Enter a name and price, and set the status to active.

You can also attach a consent form and notes on precautions the patient should take afterwards. Enable GST if it applies.

If a procedure runs over multiple sessions, select Multiple Sessions and set the session names and intervals. Click Save.

Add your investigations

On the Investigations tab, click Add or Edit. Give it a name and price, set the status to active, and Save.

Group tests into packages

The Investigation Packages tab lets you bundle two or more investigations into a single item. Click Add, name the package, select the investigations to include, set a price, enable the status, and Save. Now you add one line instead of five.

Check your medicine master

Most medicines are already preloaded, so there's usually nothing to do here. Open the Medicine Master tab and search for what you prescribe. Add anything custom with Add.

Set your prescription defaults

This is the step that saves the most time. Click Prescription and set your usual prescribing preferences — before or after food, frequency, number of days, and your standard instruction sets.

Whenever you pick a medicine that has defaults, these fill in automatically. You can still change them on any individual prescription.

Open the EMR page

From My Appointments, click the Prescription button next to the patient. That opens the EMR page.

Review the patient's history

Scroll down to see previous visits and what was prescribed last time. You can add custom labels to visits to make them easier to find later and to give yourself a quick summary of the patient's history.

Add treatments

Start typing a procedure name. If it's in your procedure master, it auto-fills. Apply a discount if you need to.

Billing details show according to your role. If the treatment has multiple sessions, you can see the scheduled dates and adjust them.

Add investigations

Same approach — start typing. If you run your own lab, you can edit the price on the line.

Add medicines

Type the medicine name. If it has prescription defaults from your master, dosage, frequency and duration fill in automatically. Edit anything that needs changing.

Record patient history

Click Patient History at the top of the page to expand the section, and enter anything you want on record.

Save it as a template

If this is a prescription you'll issue again, click Save and give it a name. Next time you load the whole thing in one click instead of rebuilding it.

Customise your layout and letterhead

Click Settings on the EMR page to choose which tabs open by default, so you're not expanding the same sections every time. Your letterhead is configured here too.

Use the faster routes

Once you're set up there are four ways to build a prescription, and manual entry is the slowest:

Load a template you saved earlier Copy from the previous visit, for repeat patients Use the search box to find and add any item directly, instead of opening each section Enter everything manually

Hand off to the front office

The patient goes to the front desk with everything already recorded. No re-entry — it's ready to print and bill.

Notes

  • The EMR page autosaves continuously, so you can leave and come back.
  • The medicine master is shared between EMR and Pharmacy.
  • Prescription defaults are starting values, not fixed rules — edit them per prescription whenever you need to.
  • What you see of billing details depends on your user role.

Common questions

Do I have to enter every medicine manually?

No. Most medicines are preloaded. You only need to add custom ones.

What if I don't have my own lab?

Set the investigation price to zero and turn off Include In Bill. The test still prints on the prescription but isn't billed.

Can I change a prefilled dosage?

Yes. Defaults from your master are a starting point — edit any of them on an individual prescription.

Do I lose my work if I close the page?

No. The EMR page autosaves as you go.

How do I avoid retyping the same prescription?

Save it as a template and load it next time, or copy from the patient's previous visit if it's a repeat.
